Healing the Body Relationship:
A Somatic Listening Series
This training is an embodied learning and healing process that utilizes powerful and creative somatic assessment and facilitation tools. This process builds trust, capacity for self awareness, psycho-neurological organization, and authentic relational intimacy.
Working with awareness, presence, touch, movement and dialogue, this training will give you practical tools to integrate body, energy and emotions.
You will learn to:
- Broaden the perceptual lens through which you work with clients
- Track somatic and energetic shifts in clients and learn effective responses
- Listen to your own body for transference & counter-transference
- Deepen your awareness and embodied presence
- Help your clients ground and embody change
- Work effectively with states of trauma
- Somatically address attachment and intimacy patterns
- Create interventions that are safe, inviting and creative.
Therapists, bodyworkers, and other health practitioners will increase effectiveness as facilitators helping clients move through stress and trauma into a rich and embodied life.
With the following skills you will see rapid therapeutic results for your clients:
Somatic Mapping
Tracking
Somatic Practices
Contact Skills
Embodied Anatomy
Auto-reflexes support
Exploration Lab
Case Studies and Demos / Diads
Certification
Ethics
Welcome
The following will be studied for the purpose of assessment and facilitation:
- shapes/posturing,
- movement patterns
- energy habits
- awareness and presence
- emotional embodiment
Family dynamics and relational patterns will be unveiled with these embodied explorations. These skills will help reveal patterns of habits and defenses as well as transformational potential. Assessment, transference and counter transference will be addressed.
Working with responses to movement impulses, gestures, and structural patterns for the purpose of inquiry, release and re-patterning by:
- following
- exaggerating
- resisting
- supporting
- reflecting
A mutually responsive dialogue between client and facilitator encourages internal awareness and sensory-motor integration. This work helps emotions surface which can then be met and felt with heart resonance and embodied presence.
Offering clients practical and creative ways to:
- ground
- center
- inquire
- resource
- regulate
These are practices that can be explored within a session to enliven process and awaken empowering responses. Personalizing practices for clients to do at home and in their daily life will encourage healthy choices.
Contact skills address issues around touch, intimacy and safety that arise while doing relational work.
Skills explored will include:
- touch and non-touch (exploring physical and energetic contact with self and other)
- forms of touch (exploring pressure speed and quality)
- safe and supportive touch (exploring needs and boundaries)
- interactive touch (exploring impulses to reach, pull, and push)
- touch re-patterning (exploring, interrupting and reorganizing patterns)
- touch and spatial awareness (exploring distance, angles and pacing)
- embodied touch (heart resonance and presence)
Exploring major systems of the body for the purpose of insight and support:
- muscles (capacity for strength and boundaries)
- bones (capacity for neutrality and support)
- fluids (capacity for connectivity and flow)
- organs ( capacity for emotional engagement and fullness/containment)
Assessment and practices emerge from this exploration. Embodied anatomy integrates and supports a person’s relationship to self, others, the natural world and the community at large.
Physiological supports for some of the body’s main fight/flight/freeze neurological responses. These hands on techniques can be done by the practitioner him/herself or taught to a family member or friend to help a client rebalance after stress and/or trauma. Self care tools will also be included.
- Adrenal and brainstem holds - settling the fight/flight mechanism
- Proprioceptive techniques - exploration of containment and expansion
- ‘Body hello’ - forms of touch that soothe and settle, awaken and enliven
- Ocular and vestibular de-sensitization and integration
An interactive group process that allows each individual to:
- Choreograph their somatic experience within the group container
- Practice listening skills within a hands on, real time experience
- Further develop skills of witnessing, grounding, contact, pacing, speech and facilitation
This somatic lab gives each participant a sacred, creative space to explore their somatic experience through movement, sound, and touch which deepens embodied presence between practitioner and clients.
During the course itself, case studies will be shared to enhance learning. Demos will be shown as well with time for questions and explorations. All skills will include practical tools that will give students a deeper knowing of the material from the inside out that can be applied during work with clients.
For certification, an additional series of classes in which case studies will be discussed and actively worked with to enhance practitioners learning of course material. Documented case studies and in class somatic explorations/assessments will be required.
Ethics refers to the appropriate holding of regard for self and others. There is an intention of mindfulness, compassion and health. Respecting the pace, state and capacity of individual participants as well as the group as a whole is prioritized. The skills of grounding, feeling, presencing and regulating are integrated into the class atmosphere.
I am pleased and excited to share what I have learned, all the while staying committed to listening to the leading edges of growth. Learning is simultaneously an individual and communal act. I invite you to bring forth your gifts as you know them and as they emerge. I am available for questions and inquiry as the work progresses.
Somatic Exploratory Labs
Create conscious intimacy with your body, mind and spirit through movement and touch.
By working with mindful awareness, sensation and movement, we allow our bodies to self organize and heal. By staying present with our sensations and impulses we can transform traumatic patterns (constricted energy) into creative potential (flowing movement)
Exploratory labs allow:
- Creative movements to flow from organic impulses
- Boundaries to become conscious and flexible
- Safe touch to enhance awareness and presence
- Mindful awareness of arising feelings and sensations
- Healing interactions that are safe and enriching
- Foundational Somatic Listening skills
These classes inspire ways to relate to ourselves and each other naturally, through our bodies gifts of movement, touch and awareness. The somatic exploration invites participants to use their impulses to move and touch as a way through dysfunction into creative potential.
